Volunteering and Groups

There are lots of opportunities to become more actively involved in the life of the parish. If you don’t see anything you fancy, or you have other gifts you’d like to offer to the community, please get in touch.

Extraordinary Ministers and Readers

Helping to minister the Word of God and the Sacrament of Holy Communion to our fellow believers is a tremendous – and very rewarding – privilege. Periodically, the priests will appeal for volunteers for these ministries. Please respond generously!

Choir

Our choir contribute their musical talents to enrich the beauty of the Sunday Mass and lift our hearts and minds to heaven. Singers of all abilities are welcome to join!

Passkeepers

Passkeepers welcome people to Mass each Sunday, paying particular attention to newcomers and visitors from other parishes. They also assist in collecting the offertory donations during Mass.

Teas and Coffees

After Mass, volunteers provide tea and coffee and biscuits in the parish rooms, giving parishioners a chance to catch up on news and enjoy each other’s company.

Money Counters

A rota of money counters, made up of different teams, help to count the offertory donations at the end of each Mass. Money counters need to have basic numeracy skills and be trustworthy and honest. To volunteer, contact the finance department.

Altar Servers

Many of the children of our parish are altar servers, assisting the priest to celebrate the Mass reverently. All children who have made their first Holy Communion are welcome to join. Full training and servers robes are provided. This is a great way for our young people to participate in the Mass!

Flower Arrangers

Every week, flowers are provided and arranged by some of our parishioners. This task can be done at a convenient time, and as part of a team. It’s a wonderful way to make our beautiful church even more beautiful!

Youth Group

The parish youth group meets every Sunday evening during school term time and is open to all children aged 8-16. It involves prayer, catechesis, arts and crafts and energetic games, as well as monthly outings and an annual summer camp. It’s lots of fun!

Religious Sisters of Mercy of alma

Not strictly speaking a parish group, the parish rooms are attached to a convent of religious sisters, who have their Mother House in Alma, Michigan. Founded in 1973, the sisters dedicate themselves to a life of prayer and works of mercy. In Scotland, the sisters work in our parish office and in the Archdiocesan Curia and are a much-loved presence in the community.
