Proposals for the redevelopment of Picardy Place, November 2017
The Council has proposed a set of plans for Picardy Place which we think will have a devastating effect on the Cathedral.
A copy of the indicative road layout is available here (pdf) and on the notice board in the Cathedral porch.
We are to lose much of the space directly in front of the Cathedral. The pedestrianized area and the parking / drop-off area will disappear altogether and be replaced by a "double bus stop", which will have serious implications for disabled and infirm parishioners who are not able to use public transport to travel to and from the Cathedral.
As yet there is nowhere confirmed for wedding or funeral corteges to stop outside the Cathedral.
