Why Camino?

Fr David Gemmell took his inspiration for the name Camino from Camino de Santiago de Compostela. The pilgrimage route to the church of St James in the north of Spain. This marries a few themes together that were important to Fr David and themes that continue to be of resonance to us.

The obvious link of the physical walk of the pilgrims, Fr David was a great walker and loved the outdoors, the experience of walking together, pilgrims sharing the experience of journeying together. This is very much in keeping with us as a ‘Pilgrim People’

As travellers we are as those on the road to Emmaus we are fellow travellers with Christ, ‘but it was not until they broke bread that they recognised him’ (Luke 24:13-35)

The Camino as both a joint path and meeting place with fellow pilgrims.
